Cabin 10, Inc. was established April 23, 2004
Rice Harrington was the Counselor of Cabin 10 at Camp Flaming Arrow in Hunt, Texas way back when three of the original board members of what was to become Cabin 10, Inc. (501C3 Non-Profit) We were young students of each other’s company and were fortunate to have him in our midst.
Rice died at the young age of 50 in July of 2003. Being the patron saint of giving more than you take, we found a way to keep his spirit alive by creating Cabin 10, Inc. April 23, 2004. Thus, our mission statement is one of giving - Supporting the arts through the gifting of scholarships. We take only the satisfaction of helping others while having a great time doing it.
Our current Board of Directors consists of:
Becca Bigott – Creative Director
Jeff Gavin - Executive Director
John Whipple – Creative Director/Marketing
Ron Sage – Creative Director/Treasurer
Thomas Chapmond - Creative Director/ Secretary

With a bit of forward thinking and the blessings of Richard & Penny Solis, Cabin 10 constructed The Donkey Shack prior to the 2024 New Folk ~ Old Folk Music Festival (NFOF). Being well received by both festivarians and donkeys alike, we plan to continue using it as our campground venue, home of the Jimmie Bell Whipple stage.
With the continued desire to support the Kerrville Folk Festival’s Grassy Hill New Folk Tour in the fall and the unavailability of Fischer Hall this November, The Donkey Shack will serve as a band aid (no pun intended), facilitating “Live at The Donkey Shack 2024”.
So, if you're wondering why we're doing a festival in November when we just did one in May . . . the primary focus of New Folk Old Folk is highlighting past and most-recent Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk winners coupled with the desire to have the festival at Fischer Hall. Given scheduling constraints and general feedback from festivarians that November is a preferred month, we’ve locked in November at Fischer Hall for the next several years. That left us with the dilemma as to how we ensure we highlight the 2024 New Folk Winners (as well as the 2025 winners-to-be) in a good and timely manner. Enter Live at the Donkey Shack for 2024.
Stay tuned for Donkey Grass March 27 - 30, 2025 . . . some incredible performers are already lined up. Then New Folk Old Folk in November 14-16, 2025 at Fischer Hall!
